The Indian’s Couple NFT (non-fungible token) wedding, Shruti Nair and Anil Narasipuram were very eye-catching. The reason is that this sacred moment of the two lovebirds takes place on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain network, even complete with a digital pastor.

Previously, weddings that took place often used bitcoin, the most popular cryptocurrency, as a dowry. On the other hand, the price of the “digital dowry” continues to soar.

NFT Wedding of Two Lovebirds in India

To digitize each other’s love for eternity, this young couple from India used a unique way, that both of them used non-fungible tokens (NFT) via the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain to formalize the household.

Shruti Nair and Anil Narasipuram, a couple from Pune, India, are known to have decided to take their court marriage to the next level. That was after they had a blockchain wedding.

“I read some articles about how people in other countries do blockchain marriages and that motivates me,” said Anil, the husband, as Cointelegraph reports.

Apart from Anil and his wife, Coinbase staff product designer Rebecca Kacherginsky has also done this unique thing first. Rebecca Kacherginsky is also known as a leading crypto entrepreneur.

On the other hand, as part of the Indian blockchain wedding earlier, the couple Shruti Nair and Anil Narasipuram were also accompanied online by Anoop Pakki who is in charge of printing NFTs or digital pastor.

“We read the oath and after getting the blessing of our digital pastor, I confirmed the transaction to transfer the NFT to my wife’s digital wallet,” said Anil again.

“The transaction took a few minutes (and about $35 in ETH gas fees). After that, we were declared husband and wife by our digital pastor!” he said.

With full confidence, the couple read their vows.

“We’re not going to make big promises, but we’re going to do everything we can to make this work. Through all our disagreements and conflicts, we hope to grow our understanding of each other and ourselves. We don’t expect to be a whole village for each other, but we will be by each other’s side, in hand, walking through this adventure, together.”

Then, the wedding vows in the form of digital images are printed as NFT by a digital pastor on the OpenSea platform.

The NFT description reads as follows: “This contract is between Shruti Sathian Nair, born 17 March 1988, and Anil Mohan Narasipuram, born 11 October 1986. The parties to this agreement are hereby declared husband and wife, on 15 November 2021 and have to endure, in pain. and in health, for now and forever.”

Despite the romance, India’s Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman, has previously announced the launch of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) along with a 30% crypto tax throughout the 2022 Union Budget.

Cointelegraph reports, according to Sitharaman, the launch of the CBDC will provide a “huge boost” to the shared digital economy, with the possibility of a more efficient and cheaper currency management system.

“Any income from the transfer of any virtual digital asset will be taxed at 30%. No deductions related to any expenses or allowances are allowed when calculating that income, except for acquisition costs,” he suggested.

Coinbase Employee’s NFT Wedding

Almost a year before the wedding of the Indian couple, a unique story of marriage on the blockchain network was carved out by two Coinbase employees. Citing a report from The Verge on April 2, 2021, the couple managed to find a touching use of NFT, by incorporating it into their wedding—exchanging digital tokens as part of the wedding ceremony.

The lovebirds, Rebecca Rose and Peter Kacherginsky, stated that apart from their traditional Jewish ceremony, they also sent each other digital tokens as “virtual rings”. As for the Twitter thread about their wedding, Rose mentioned that their virtual ring is now on the blockchain.

“For everyone to see as proof of our commitment to one another,” he wrote.

In addition, the couple also named this token “Tabaat”—a Hebrew word for “ring.” Uniquely, if you look for Tabaat tokens on Etherscan, the two tokens are declared to have been printed and nothing else can be regenerated.
