What is Golem (GLM)
Golem (GLM) is an Ethereum token that allows users to pay or receive payments for resources via the Golem protocol. This protocol aims to allow participants in the network to lend the backup processing power of their computers to others.
The Beginning of Golem Network (GLM)
The Golem Factory was founded in Switzerland in 2016 by Julian Zawistowski, Andrzej Regulski, Piotr Janiuk, Aleksandra Skrzypczak
The idea for the Golem Network was first presented during DevCon 0 in November 2014. This decentralized platform is intended to be the first proxy-free and censorship-resistant environment for computer-intensive projects worldwide. After introducing this concept at DevCon 0, the team worked tirelessly to develop the Golem Network, launching a public crowdfunding event on November 11, 2016.
In 2019, based on their collective learning, the team realized that they needed a completely new architecture to build a more comprehensive platform for common distributed computing. This ultimately results in a new, improved architecture and a new building approach designed to give the user endless possibilities when it comes to crafting on top of Golems.
How Golems (GLM) work
Golem will be a decentralized platform for completing computing tasks using giant computers. Users would upload computing tasks to the Golem network, and those tasks would be spread out among tens, hundreds, or even thousands of computers connected to the network.
Users on the Golem network will exchange GNT tokens for compute output. For example, a node in the Golem network will use its computing power to create part of a larger CGI project. The node will then be allocated a number of GNT according to the amount of computing power it uses.
Golem uses Ethereum smart contracts to distribute payments. Smart contracts automatically calculate and distribute computer-generated funds to complete tasks without the involvement of third parties.
Transactions on the Golem network occur through a multi-agent system that matches user requests with appropriate computers to complete a given task. Assignments are defined by the applicant with an easy-to-use Task Definition Framework.
The Golem Network also includes App Registration which allows any user on the network to create and release Golem based apps, for free or for profit (if they wish). The app can also be used to complete micropayments.
